Amber Martin- Duchessina, by Carolyn Meyer
1: Duchessina, by Carolyn Meyer, is set in France, during the 1500’s. This meant that their was a king, Queen, prince/ princess, etc. The book followed around a girl named Catherine, better known as Duchessina. This time period made it historical fiction because nobody of today’s age was around during this time period, therefore making it historical. Also, in America today, we don’t have kings and queens, so this book would be historical for that reason, too.
2: This time period affected the girl's life, because since she was a Duchess or Medici, people didn’t like her. Whoever the Pope didn’t like, nobody liked. Since the Pope was overall in charge, if you had a bad name ( whether you chose to or not), that will determine your whole life. Also, Duchessina got assigned to whom she would marry, without even meeting him. Her husband Henri ended up not even loving her, which could’ve been prevented if she could choose her husband. Back then, it was based on the wealth of the soon to be Queen. If it had been a different time period (like today, for example), she could’ve chosen who to marry, and they could’ve actually loved each other, and had a good family name/ reputation.
3: I think the author chose that time period and setting to create as many conflicts as possible. This is because in the book, Duchessina goes through many hardships that nobody has to go through today, for example, having to hide from the town because she doesn’t come from royalty. She also lost many people she loved because of sickness (that we could care for now, and by making it in the 1500’s, doctors wouldn’t have as much medicine as now). Every conflict the main character had, created suspense, an interesting storyline; and that was because of the time period.
4: Something I learned from this time period was that even though their were kings and queens, the Pope was still the most respected person, and he made overall decisions. Also, I learned that if the queen didn’t have a child, they could be “sent away” from their husband, because in the eyes of the public, she was basically useless.

"Brooklyn" by Colm Toibin
"Brooklyn" by Colm Toibin was about a young woman named Ellis who moves to America because she was unable to find employment in Ireland. This book is historical fiction because it takes place in the 1950s and has many real world problems back then. Some of these problems include the struggles of immigrating, being poor, and losing loved ones. Even though the problems are realistic and did happen to many people in that time period, Ellis and her family and friends were not real people.
The time period of this book affected the main characters life a lot. If Ellis lived today and the story was happening in present time, Ellis would have lived an easy life. She would not have gone through as many problems as she did in the 50s.This illustrates that life has gotten a lot easier through the decades.
I think the author chose the 1950s as the time this book takes place because it shows how difficult life was back then. Ellis also has a very open mind, and believes that everyone should be treated equally. In a time period like this, it is very hard to openly share that opinion with someone.
After reading the book, I learned that the 1950s was a very different time period. People found joy in many different things even though it was a very hard time back then. People would lose many jobs, loved ones would pass away more quickly, and immigrating was a very though issue, and still is to this day.

This book took place during and after the bombing of Pearl Harbor by the Japanese, and the secret K-9 training program, which was a secret American project to train dogs to smell and attack Japanese soldiers. It was a failure.
The main character was a Japanese - American teen who enlisted in the US army after seeing his father’s prize boat destroyed. However, he is not allowed into combat, because the military is worried that he might turn on the American troops. But one night, with no warning, he and some of his friends are taken out of bed and driven to an airport, where they are flown overseas. There they are forced to participate in the top - secret operation known as K-9. However, he is a great dog lover, and he feels terrible when he is forced to beat the dogs in an effort to make them hate Japanese people, and even more so when he realizes that it was all for nothing, because the project failed.
I think that the author chose this setting because the bombing of Pearl harbor was a very important event in American history, and that not many people have ever heard of the K-9 project, and if they have they didn’t know how terrible the program really was.
One thing I learned about this time period is what the K-9 program was about. I had heard of it, and knew it was a dog training program, but had no idea about what they did to the dogs to try to train them.

The Book Thief (Markus Zusak)
1. The Book Thief is set in Germany At the beginning of World War II. This was a hard time for Germany because of war expenses making the country extremely poor and, the danger of not being allegiant to the Nazi party.
2. This Time period affected the character's life in many ways. The main Character Liesel Meminger Is sent to live with a foster family because her mother is on the run from the Nazi party. Her foster father is not with the Nazis and therefore is in danger. Liesel's family and friends are impoverished and money or good food is very scarce. Because of this she and her best friend Rudy Steiner resort to thievery. Her foster father ends up harboring a jew in their basement and he becomes a major part of Liesel’s life. And all of Liesel’s family and friends die in an air raid except for her. All of these storytelling elements and events together would not be possible in another time period.
3. I believe the Author chose the time period of the beginning of WWII because it was a very dangerous and tough time to be alive. Another Very significant element is that it was a very confusing time for a child seeming how they would not understand politics or why their family can’t have good food anymore.
4. I learned a few things about life during WWII from “The Book Thief.” The biggest thing I learned was that it was dangerous for Germans as well as jews. They Took allegiance to the party very seriously and not being a member of the Nazi party could often mean the difference between life and death.
Tori C, LA A, The Secret Holocaust Diaries, by Nonna Bannister.
The Historical event of this book is during the Holocaust when German soldiers took Jewish people and brought them to concentration camps.
This historical event impacted the main character’s life hugely. Her whole life changed because of this time in history. For example, she was taken from her home as a young girl not knowing what was going on. Before World War II and the Holocaust her life was happy she had a family and friends and all of a sudden it all changed when the German soldiers took them and put them into tight spaced trains and to the concentration camps. In the tight spaced trains there were German soldiers with guns to make sure nobody got out and that was very scary and odd for the main character.
The author chose this time period as the setting, because it’s shows what life was like as a young girl during the Holocaust. She described what she saw and her experience during it. For example, she described how all the soldiers looked when she first got off the train and she said how she saw them with dog and guns. Also, she saw other people getting off different trains and going into different directions than she was going in. It’s also a way of showing and learning the history and how terrible of a time it was.
During this time period i learned somethings that i didn’t know before. For example, during the holocaust most Jewish people didn’t even know who the German soldiers were or why they were taking them to places that wasn’t their home. Also, i also learned that German soldiers weren’t only mean to Jewish adults, they were mean to innocent Jewish Children too.

Vietnam I Pledge Allegiance
1)The historical event is the Vietnam war. The year is set in the 1960’s to the 70’s. The protagonist is posted on the frontlines in the rice paddies.
2)This time period affects his life because he is constantly worrying about his other friends. Before the war the 4 characters all loved to hang out and go places. They all were good students in school until the War started. When they are all deployed their lives change drastically. Morris becomes more of a mature man whereas before he had no worries. He is changed into a cold killer seeing it is his job to protect his country and friends. Next his friend Rudy dies on the USS Boston and becomes depressed .Morris feels as if he does not have the will to live. After all of these tough experiences he really starts to change. He starts to grow a beard and not care about hygiene. All of this really takes a toll on him and his friends and the environment changes around them. They then see Vietnam differently to when they were deployed. Finally it is their time to go home. When they arrive life just isn't the same without Rudi. His family has changed and so has his friends. His parents give Morris his privacy and lets him think things through. Later his mom is overreacting about many things and crying a lot and is not happy as she used to be.
3)I believe the author chose this setting to show that not every story has a good outcome and the horrors of war. The story ends with The protagonist looking off his deck and thinking it is his fault he did not save Rudi. Of course there was nothing he could have done and is becoming delusional. He constantly is thinking about all of the people killed and all of the people he killed.
4)I learned that the war actually started in 1955 and ended in 1975. Before i initially thought it started in the 60’s.

The book based on a real plane hijacking called “ Girl on a Plane” was based on a plane that the author, Miriam Moss was on that was hijacked by Palestinian terrorists. Her plane was hijacked in 1970, so she decided to write a book about her experiences but in the eyes of a 15 year old girl. The time in history was small, vague but still left a big a impact on young Anna’s (the protagonist’s) life. It left a big impact because it is something that should never happen, especially to a child. It terrified Anna and made her fear for her life, and her two new friends beside her, (Tim and David.) She thought she was going to never see her family again, due to the bomb on the plane, and she thought she was going to die almost every time one of the hijackers passed by. But eventually she got to see her brothers again and was reunited with her parents. I think the author chose this time period because she felt the exact same way she describes Anna’s feelings. She also wanted to describe what it is like to have a plane hijacked by Palestinians. I learned that the author’s plane was hijacked and Palestinians were angry at England during this time. They were angry because they wanted to free Palestine and nobody would help so they kept hijacking English and Egyptian planes. I also learned that security in airports was terrible in the 1970s or else the bmb in a suitcase would have never gotten on the plane.

Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein
1. This historical fiction book takes place in Europe during World War 2. The main characters in the present are in France. However, for a majority of the book, they tell the story of their travels all over Europe as a pilot and a spy. The main characters are not directly related to the massacre of Jews, but they fight against the Nazis.
2. This time period affected the two main characters in different ways. The first is Julie. Her upbringing can be described as rich and wealthy. She lived in a castle with maids and such; an all but easy life. However when the war started, she seeked something more than that and became a spy. She no longer had the comforts of home and had to fend for herself. Along her journey she met her best friend, Maddie, the other protagonists. After a few years, she was unfortunately captured by the Nazis and forced to fess up her information. After deemed unnecessary, she began to get tortured by the Nazis. However Maddie found her and ended her life before she could suffer more. Maddie had loved vehicles all her life, specifically her motorcycle. This love and the war drove her to leave behind her old life and experiment with planes with help from a pilot. She started off from repairing the planes to flying them herself. She flew people, like Julie, across Europe to help in the war. After a crash landing, she ended up in France where she became a part of a resistance. When they’d heard word that Julie and other of their people were captured, they rushed to the scene, where Maddie had to kill her best friend.
3. I think the author chose World War 2 as the time period because it was traumatic event that many people can sympathize with. All over the world people know the story of the Nazis and the killing of the Jews, and some are even personally connected to it. This makes the characters intentions and traits easy to understand and like as most people feel the same way.
4. I did not learn much about this time period because this story focuses mostly on two people and their friendship as opposed to historical events. However, I did learn about things they were a part of, such as organizations and prisons. There were organizations such as Air Transport Auxiliary, Women's Auxiliary Air Force, Royal Air Force, The Air Ministry, and more. The two main characters were both a part of the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force and often spoke of the other air forces. I also learned that the Nazi’s turned certain places into prisons. For example, Julie’s prison used to be a hotel called Bordeaux Castle Hotel.

Book: New boy Author: Julian Houston
This book was based when African Americans weren’t treated as equal as whites were. For example, in the 1950’s all blacks were treated unfairly. Also, all blacks had to sit in the back of the bus. They couldn’t interact with any white students. Also, the main character, Rob Garrett was treated unfairly because of his skin color. He was also, the only colored boy at this school so it was kind of hard to fit in. Rob wanted to fit in, he made a friend that didn’t care about his skin color. People at the school did bully not only Rob but Vinnie too. Next, I think the author chose this time period because he wanted to make a difference in the world. No one liked that blacks were treated unfairly especially blacks. He wanted to get on the topic again and teach a lesson, don’t be rude to other people just because of their skin color. Even though this ended a while ago, it does still go on today. Lastly, I didn’t know that a white boy could be friends with a colored boy and people would allow it back then. This is because with what happened with Martin Luther King Jr. and his friend. Back then African Americans couldn’t be friends with a white boy, they couldn’t have any contact with each other, which was really unfair. So I was surprised when they did allow Rob to have a white friend named Vinnie. I think the author put this in the book to say that African Americans and whites can be friends and there is no reason to separate them.

The book “A God In Ruins” by Kate Atkinson is set in multiple time periods, taking place from the 1940s to 2012. Each chapter is set in a different year with the same characters (not in chronological order). In the chapters that are set in the 1940s, the historical event going on is World War II, in which the main character, Teddy, is a pilot with a crew, flying in many operations, meeting new people, and nearly dying in many situations. When the chapters are in the 1990s to 2012, there are no prominent events in the world that Teddy is engaged in.
The historical event, World War II, affected Teddy’s life immensely. Teddy was a pilot on many, many aircrafts, and he had a fateful crew that he flew with time and time again. The war, as Teddy had claimed, had changed him from what he was before. Teddy said, throughout the book, that he had thought there was only a present, and there was no “afterward.” That philosophy stayed with him for the rest of his life. The war affected his relationship with his fiancee, too. Nancy was part of the war in that she was part of a secret-keeping society of women that was constantly decoding messages from foreign countries. This kept them from talking to each other, because Nancy was forbidden from telling Teddy anything about her work, and Teddy couldn’t tell her where he was stationed, either. Their relationship slipped because of the limited number of days they could take leave, and their conversation was limited. After the war, though, their relationship regained its balance, but it was never the same as it had been before; very honest.
I believe the author chose this as a setting because of the affect she wanted it to have on reader. At the end of the book, the way Teddy had learned to live in the present and not think about an “afterward” had paid off, after the author reveals that all his life, after the war, described in the story was imaginary. Teddy had really died in an aircraft crash in 1947, never living to see Nancy or his family again. The things that took place after the 1940s were all imagined by the narrator. The time period had driven the idea of living in the present into Teddy’s head, and the sorrowful anecdote of Teddy’s untimely death revealed in the end leaves the reader feeling the same way: there is only a present as of right now. The war was a huge part of Teddy’s life and if the narrator had not described an “afterward” and then told that Teddy was no more, it would have minimal affect on the reader.
One thing I learned was many pilots died just training. Pilots would train in their aircrafts, and come for a landing and crash is on the runway accidentally, killing them. I didn’t realize that no one was a professional pilot when they joined the war, and they had to learn to control aircrafts before they took them to a war zone. They would fly successfully, but wouldn’t be able to land them and die in the process. It was quite sad, and I didn’t enjoy thinking about it but it brought to my attention that the pilots were very young, some even children as young as seventeen and eighteen years old.

“1.A Thousand Never Evers,” by Shana Burg is set in the the year 1963 and takes place in Kuckachoo Mississippi. This is historical fiction because Addi Ann goes through the time of civil rights as a 12 year old black child. She talks about how the white folks treated her and about the meetings held at churches to discuss civil rights. She also talks about how people are killed for the color of their skin like Medgar Evers and her own brother Elias.
2.Addi’s life was affected by the time period because of the color of her skin. She and her whole neighborhood were treated unfairly like when the power went down and even after months the town refused to fix it or when a man named Old Man Adams passed away and left his garden to the whites and blacks so they could all work together. The White folks turned around and said that the garden was all theirs and that the black folks couldn't use it. If she had lived in a different time, she could have been treated equally. She could have gone to nicer schools and maybe her brother could still be alive.
3.The author picked this time frame because she knew it was full of hardships. She knew that she could make the story sad and put the characters through hard times so the reader could get to know them and feel bad for them. Not only that but with so much that could possibly happen, the author knew that she could make the reader desperate to read more and she did. She knew the reader would be so hooked they couldn't put the book down and a lot of that is because of what happened and how people were treated in that time frame.
4.By reading this book I learned more in detail about how black people were treated. I knew that they were treated unfairly and that many of them died but this story helped me realize just how bad it was. When Medgar Evers passed away we learned that he had fought for his country but the white people didn't care. They didn't see him as a hero who risked his life for them, they saw him as worthless and killed him for wanting schools to be integrated so his children could get a good education. I also learned about the community and about no matter what happened or how they felt they would always stick together. When A cross was lit outside their church they didn't trample each other running around in fear, they supported each other and kept each other calm by singing together.

All Girls Filling Station’s Last reunion
By: Fannie Flagg
Throughout the book The All-Girls Filling Station’s Last Reunion by: Fannie Flagg there are many times that she portrays how the book is Historical Fiction. In the book there is a middle aged women named Sookie and she has discovered through her roots that her “mother” is not her biological mother. She finally decides to dig deeper and research about her roots. Her real mother was a WASP in world war two and in the book the author chooses to go back to the 1940’s in Pulaski, Wisconsin and show the world of her mother's in 1940’s. In the book the mother whose name is Sophia and her 2 sisters who run the family business, a gas station because the men went off to war. Before this they had some flying experiences and had a deep desire of flying planes in the war. As the war started to carry on they had to close the gas station. After a long time of fighting for what they wanted, they finally got to go to war to be a pilot. Then after a few weeks the sisters each went of to training and were going to be shipped out. During the war it affected many of the characters lives. In the book the women have to step up what they are doing and have to take the place of the men's job in their towns. While many of the men are dying overseas the women have to keep their spirits up and run the town, a duty that was rare for a women to fulfill. Women were supposed to cook and clean and take after their families. Perhaps Fannie Flagg picked this era because it was the start of a new era where women could get jobs and do whatever they wanted to do. Some may say that while the women were running the town they had something to do and felt needed and decided they were done with being a housewife and wanted equal rights; to have a job just like the men do. Some interesting facts that I have learned about the 1940’s is that women were not allowed to fly planes in the war for some time; although famous female pilots such as Amelia Earhart were flying planes ahead of that time period. Also I was surprised at how many people were shipped of to help in the war. This is how throughout the book the All-Girls Filling Station’s Last Reunion Fannie Flagg the author portrays the works of the 1940’s through the genre historical fiction.

The Clockwork Three- Matthew J. Kirby
In the Clockwork Three, the story takes place during the 1800s in America. In this book the author describes three different characters and their life in the city. Each is facing their own struggles and difficulties throughout the story and must figure out how to solve their problem. Giuseppe is an immigrant from Italy. He is controlled by his guardian, who provides him with a bed and barley enough food to live off of. If Giuseppe disobeyes his master, he is beaten. Hannah is a poor maid. Her father is victim of a stroke and is unable to provide for their family. Hannah must now drop out of school and work countless hours to provide enough money for her sisters, mother and father to have a roof over her head. Then her father’s blood becomes poisoned and Hannah must find the money to pay for his medicine or he will lose his leg. Fredrick is a clockmaker in training. He faces few difficulties in his life. However his past is filled with awful memories. His mother leaving him at an orphanage when he was only a child. Working in the factories weaving, he learns how to work with machinery. His gift, is abused by the caretaker of the orphanage, who beats him until he fixes the machinery of the factory in which they work.
The author chose this time period because of the laws, medicine, and lifestyle of the characters in the story. If the author had set this story in a different time period the characters would have faced completely different lifestyles. Hannah’s father would be in a treatment for the stroke he had. There would be doctors to help care for him. Hannah’s mother would be able to work and the family would be providing more money. In addition, the medicine in the future is much more advanced than the medicine that Hannah’s father was given. The total cost of the medicine was twenty dollars, an entire month of Hannah’s pay. Fredrick and Giuseppe would also not have been put under the force and paint that they were in a different era. There would be laws against it and there are not in this book. Something I did learn about this time period was how there were no laws preventing people from beating children. It wasn’t a requirement for people to go to school, or have an education. Also Immigrants faced may challenges when coming to America. The life that waited for them in this country was a life the were willing to do anything to get. They were treated as though they were dogs and locked away until finally they were allowed onto this land.

November book report
1)My November historical fiction book was called, Across The Wide And Lonesome Prairie, By: Kristiana Gregory. This book takes place when Americans were traveling from Missouri all the way across the Oregon trail, to Oregon. People living in Missouri wanted to get away from all the disease and issues with their land. They also have heard from friends and relatives that traveling across the Oregon trail is a long and torturous journey. But, they had many new job opportunities, different lifestyle, and very rich land for growing crops.
2)The main character in my book is Hattie Campbell. Hattie and her family are looking for a new job opportunities and a different lifestyle in Oregon. Hattie wasn’t sure whether she wanted to go to Oregon. But after the long, sad, and difficult journey, they were glad that they made it there. In this time period Hattie was typically a happy girl, but after all 4 of her sisters died from an illness, she and her family have been trying to cope with the sadness. When Hattie travels along the Oregon trail she made a really good new friend and that lifted her spirits. It was also very hard for her when two little children that were also traveling along the trail went missing and were never found. At the beginning of the trip along the Oregon trail Hattie was generally excited and wanted to get to Oregon. But, after a few weeks, she was sick of it and would rather turn around and go home to Missouri. But once Hattie was in Oregon, she was glad that her whole family had gotten there safely.
3)I think the author chose this time period as the setting because it was a very hard time for people traveling along the Oregon trail. This would probably make the reader feel more connected to the book and want to keep reading to see if the characters life ever turned around. I also think the author chose this time period because it is a very interesting and informational time to learn about.
4)I learned many things about this time period that I didn’t know before. Before reading this book I knew nothing about life traveling across the Oregon trail. I learned that many people died traveling across the Oregon trail. I also learned that Indians sometimes attacked the travelers because they were traveling across their land. Lastly, I learned that the travelers had to get rid of many of their belonging when their wagon was getting to heavy and their oxen died.

People of the Book -Geraldine Brooks
The book took place in multiple places during different time periods. It took place in Sarajevo, Bosnia, Vienna, Venice, and similar cities. The time period was from as early as the 1400’s and as late as the 1900’s. It tells the story about a book’s travel through time. The book is called the Sarajevo Haggadah, a haggadah is a Jewish prayer book. One of the time periods that stood out to me was the second world war. When a library is being bombed, one of its workers, who happens to be Muslim, saves the book from the fire. Another time period was during an Inquisition when books that spoke against Christianity were burned. The haggadah had barely made it through the inspection. The inspector had a ‘friend’ that was a rabbi, who convinced him to save the beautiful book. The book also tells about how the haggadah came to be. It was made in Seville in about 1480. The maker was a woman who was indentured at a paint and calligrapher studio, in a book pavilion in a place called Hooman. Most of the stories about what happened in the book’s traveling history were fictional, and based off research collected by a book conservator.
These different time periods each left a unique mark on the beautiful book, now known as the Sarajevo haggadah. There was wine stain from Venice, a white hair from a paint brush stuck in the binding from the book’s creation, a wing from a butterfly when it was hidden in the mountains, and similar things. The stories created and based off of these artifacts found were fictional, causing the book to be categorized as historical fiction. The book went through hard times, its sculpted silver binding was stripped and repurposed. Every place it traveled a mark was left behind.
I think the author decided to use different time periods throughout the story so she could write about the different circumstances the book was put through. The author used 1996 as the base year. She did this because it was during that year when a book conservator made a thorough inspection on the haggadah. It had been lost/misplaced for many years, and just found. I think the author’s decision made it easier for the other to connect the paths the book had traveled.
I learned a little about each time period in which the book traveled. When it was saved during WWII I realized how much pain and terror took place. I learned how much was lost, and how many people suffered. Throughout the whole book I learned how Jewish people were discriminated against. They were discriminated multiple years, over and over. I could not believe the thing they had to suffer. This book described their living conditions and the pain they felt, just because of their religion. Jews were thought of as disgusting. For example, when the rabbi was getting into a gondola in Venice he decided not to seek aid from the gondolier, thinking that he would be offended if a Jew touched his arm. Many things that I had heard about were put in context as I read. I learned more about subjects that I knew little about before reading this book.
Jayda Sylvia LA A The Fool’s Girl By: Celia Rees
1) This book was in the time period of 1601 in London. Also there was a village town where violetta and stephano lived.
2) This time period affected Violetta’s life because she was in love with her village childhood friend Stephano after stephano helped her realize everything that is wrong in the world. This also affected her life because other people from towns were trying to raid their town of the relic.
3) I think this author chose this time period as the setting to make the story more interesting and to make the story more dramatic because Violetta is in love with stephano and they together are trying to save their town. Also this time period makes the story more dramatic because with all the commotion in the middle and beginning of the story, it leads to the end where stephano and violetta save their town by keeping the relic which is what keeps the town together.
4) I learned that this time period was very harsh for people because there was no way to prevent commotion like this from happening besides fighting so when everyone would get things stolen from them like money and precious items and in this case, the relic which is the item that holds the city in place.

1, Q: Tell me about the historical event and time period of the books setting that made this book historical fiction?
A: The time period of my book was the 1940’s When world war two was going on. The book was taking place just as American soldiers were being sent to Europe, The main character (Margret) and her best friend’s brother were being sent to Europe to fight against the Germans.
2. Q: How did the time period affect the main character's life?
A: The time period greatly affected the character Margaret's life a lot the war caused a lot of stress on her and her best friend, they were worried their brothers would be injured or even killed in battle. Here life was greatly affected when her friends Butch and Harold were killed in battle which caused her to hate the war and wish for it to end so badly. She expresses this on page 85 saying, “I wish Hitler dead and the war was over and my brother was safe at home”.
3 Q: Why do you think the author chose this time period?
A: The author probably chose this time period to build sympathy for the class bully, Gordy. It helps the reader understand why Gordy is such a bully to everyone and makes Elizabeth and Margaret hate the war even more than they originally did, which helped develop the plot of the story.
4.Q: what did you learn about this time period that you didn’t know before reading the book?
A: Some things this book taught me was, during the war if their was a blue star hanging in someone’s window or house it meant they had a family member in the war. Another thing I learned that was shown in this book was that the Americans were actually very afraid of Hitler and had doubts about the war.

The book Witch Child by Celia Rees was about the witch trials in 1659. The witch trials were when people were accusing other people of being a witch with no proof. This Historical event affected The character in the book Mary lived in England where they were doing the witch hunts. People in England accused Mary’s grandmother of being witch. They first tortured her grandmother then hanged her. For example it says,”The men in tall hats dragged my grandmother from the stinking hole where they had been keeping her. They cross-bound her, tying right toe to her left thumb and vice versa. Then they threw her in.” Mary decided she couldn’t stay in England because she thought they would accuse her too. She traveled to an American colony and stayed there. She made a couple of friends and thought she was safe there. Mary was wrong they started doing the witch trials in colony and Mary was worried people would accuse her of being a witch.
I think the author choose this period of time because she wanted to show the journey Mary went on. I also think she choose this period of time to teach people about the witch trials. One thing I learned was that during the witch trials is sometimes if they thought you were a witch they would tie something heavy to your feet and through you in the water. If you sunk that meant you weren't a witch and if you didn't that meant you were a witch. Obviously nobody ever floated but they still thought it would work. I also learned that they didn't have to have real proof to accuse you of being a witch.
Abbey A; LA ; America’s First Daughter by Stephanie Dray and Laura Kamoie; 12/1/17
The book “America’s First Daughter” is set in the time period of the late 1700’s to the early 1800’s. It made the book historical fiction because it went with Thomas Jefferson’s life and included real life events such as the signing of the Declaration of Independence, elections and the Constitutional Convention It also included deaths such as Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, Philip Hamilton and George Washington’s. The time affected the book because the main character, Patsy Jefferson, would use the letters as chapter openings. She would also be able to go along with her “papa’s” time. Patsy would be able to tell it as it was happening. The author chose the time period because the book was about Thomas Jefferson’s daughter so it wouldn’t work if it were in any different time frame as Thomas Jefferson would most likely be dead and Patsy wouldn’t be able to tell it as it was happening. From reading this book I learned more about how people lived in the time period like how they dressed, moved, spoke, and more. I also learned it was easy to get accused of something you didn’t do. For example, the Marquis De Lafayette was sent to jail because he was accused of treason over in France, but he never did anything and the Jefferson’s were accused of killing a baby which they never did. Patsy Jefferson also let me learn how easy it was for people to get sick back then as they had no medicine to help them. The book also had different things happen that we probably wouldn’t have expected to happen back then. For example, abuse and suicidal thoughts. I would never have thought that would happen back in colonial times but from this book I found out it did. One final thing that made this book historical fiction was it used real life historical figures including, Thomas Jefferson, Sally Hemings, James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, Marquis De Lafayette, Philip Hamilton, Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton, George Washington, Aaron Burr and John Adams.
Killian Lautieri Class A
The novel, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak is set during the time of the World War II when Hitler was ruling Nazi Germany. The main character Liesel is sent to live with a foster family after, Death, the narrator of the novel, comes to retrieve the soul of Liesel’s brother. Liesel then grows up around many different types of people who spark her opinion on Nazi Germanu.
The historical time in the book affected the main character, Liesel's, way of living, as she is often forced to keep her true opinions on what is going on in Nazi Germany quiet. The setting of Nazi Germany also affects the way people around Liesel act, her foster mother, Rosa, even though not directly addressed in the book one can infer that Rosa is obviously upset about what was happening in the world due to her rather erratic and aggressive actions toward everyone, often swearing. Liesel’s foster father Hans, is rather different than Rosa, and keeps his opinion less obvious by not acting out as much, acting less of a parent toward Liesel and more of a friend. Hans’ opinion on the Holocaust is rather negative because when fighting in World War I, Hans made a promise to a Jewish friend, Eric who died while at war, Hans now works as a painter, however he also helps Jewish business owners get rid of anti-Jew racial slurs that are painted on their shops. Liesel also made a friend called Rudy, who had a passion for sports and wanted to be like Jesse Owens, a black man, who participated in the 1936 Olympics and when Jesse dressed up as Owens and acts like he is in the race, he is punished by his dad,who reassures him, he shouldn’t want to be like Jesse Owens because of his “beautiful blond hair and safe blue eyes”
I think the author chose this time period because it has such a big impact on what goes on in the story. The setting gives the entire book a rather eerie tone, and it increasingly gets more suspenseful. I feel as though the author wanted to portray how much the events of World War II could have on a child, and how much it contrasts from how kids in our world today live.
When reading the book I learned that it wasn’t only one group of people who were affected by the second World and that many free people also suffered during the time. Even if someone had any sort of positive association with Jewish people, they were punished, when I was learning about the Holocaust, it was only one group of people who were mainly being punished, I learned that you didn’t have to be Jewish to suffer, I also learned how strict and harsh the way free people lived during the holocaust was.
Jovan Garcia La. A One came home by: Amy Timberlake
One came home is written in the late 1800’s,and is about a young girl who soon discovers her sister has been found dead, but doesn’t truley believe she is so she goes on a journey with with billy mccabe to find her sister. She goes from place to place investigating asking questions showing people a photo of agatha asking if they’ve seen her but no one has. Until she runs into Mr.olmstead an old friend of agatha’s he told her he’d talked her the day before she left, and that she was going on the pigeon trail with pigeoneers, she soon follows the trail herself but doesn’t find her as soon as her and Billy want to give up they make there way to the Garrow’s she shows Mrs. Garrow a photo of agatha she says she hasn’t seen her,but when she asks Mr.garrow georgie noticed a scared look sweep across his face, but he doesn’t say anything,so the give up and make way,but before they leave Mrs.garrow informs them that darlene has been gone for quite some time that she ran off with the love of her life, and they leave soon after. On the journey back home she goes threw a shootout were Billy gets shot and dies, she had killed the men hopped on Billy’s horse with tears all the way down her face and rode off to home to her ranch, and she never found agatha or solve dif she’s dead or alive.
The time period affects the story line because the protagonist Georgie lives in a small town on a ranch and she soon finds out that her sister is suspected dead, and back in the 1800’s it was a lot harder to solve a murder,so she goes out on a journey to find her sister along with Billy Mccabe because she doesn’t believe she is dead. Also back in the 1800’s it was a lot harder to track someone down, so her family never found her untill she returned home.
I believe she chose this because if it were in the present a 13 year old wouldn’t go on a journey to find her sister because the police would soon find the murderer. Also due to dna testing the police would’ve informed the family it wasn’t their daughter who had been murdered it was Darlene Garrow who just happened to be wearing the same dress as Agatha Georgies sister, and has the same colored hair. Also it makes the story more interesting being in the wild west back in the 1800’s.
Somethings I didn’t know before about the 1800’s was that many people were poor or homeless. Also horses were everywhere because there were no cars, and if you didn’t have a horse you’d have to walk to where ever you needed to go. Also that only the wealthy got proper education.

Sunrise Over Fallujah
Walter Dean Myers
The book i choose was, Sunrise Over Fallujah, this is a event that happened in the vietnam war around spring 2003. This makes the book fiction because the war really happened between: Nov 1, 1955 – Apr 30, 1975. The main character Robin “birdy” Perry is a new recruit in the army he is not sure why he enlisted but he is sure that the name of his unit, the civil affairs unit, isn't what they're really going to be doing instead they are going to war. The author created this setting and situation to add suspense, curiosity and he us trying to drag the reader into finishing the book. The author also had birdy writing to his uncle who was also in the army. He might of added this to show that people in the army still have humanity and families. Throughout this book I learned that not all the iraquians were against america in fact some tried helping. A group of iraquians help birdy and his unit get there humvee out of the mud. But in other cases the iraquians tried to blow them up. (this is historic fiction so them helping americans might be wrong.)

1.) For Freedom Took place In WWII, It takes place in Cherbourg, France. The story is about A young girl, Whose home was bombarded by heavy weapons, At the time Hitler was trying to Invade France to expand the Soviet Union, this lead to a nationwide evacuation, the young girl never heard about the evacuation so she happened to be at the beach one day then bombs fell directly in front of her.
2.) The young girl's life was heavily affected by the war because she was badly injured by the impact of the bomb, There was also deaths of close friends and relatives of the girl, one of her teachers from school was killed while pregnant. The text stated that, “Her stomach was torn and laying beside her, her unborn baby, also dead.”
3.) This time period was crucial to the story itself, if the story had nothing to do with the war, then how would the bombs have fallen? how would people die? The author also used this time setting to intrigue the reader and to make a point on how scary it was for the French during WWII.
4.) I learned that France itself was affected by WWII, They were fully engaged in a full blown war against the Soviet Union. The army evacuated but the people remained where they were. I also learned about the French citizens, how they felt, the fear that ran through them when the bombs fell, and how they lived after the bombing.

1. The historical event was that the boy wanted to go to the river but couldn’t because the boy was too scared and his friends made it a joke.
2. This historical fiction event to his life because now everyone knows that he is to scared to go to the ten mile river also people that he knows were making fun of him because he didn’t want to go and if the friends that were with him told other people than he knows that that’s not what a true friend does because if you’re scared of something and your friends know and they tell other people than they can’t be trusted.
3. I think this author chose the time period because he knew that the boy wasn’t going to go to the ten mile river also they knew that he was afraid and that he didn’t want anyone to know that but now that his friends told the whole school the boy realized that he needs to make new friends and learn that he can trust them and that they won’t tell the whole school you’re biggest fear or your secrets .
4.I learned to never go to a lake with just two friends because i would never know what would happen to us. Also i think that i learned to never tell anyone anything without knowing if their going to keep it to themselves and not tell anyone my secrets or what i’m afraid of because if they would ever tell anyone that i’m afraid of something than i can’t be friends with that person because they can’t be trusted. This is different of what really happened in the vietnam war. A group of Green Berets were assigned by Col. 3 The author chose this setting because he was in this conflict but made this story a bit interesting to the reader. He chose this setting because it would be a great story to write which was really good and well captivating.
4 I learned that the vietnam is a dark place. Its gritty and sometimes scary being in that kind of position. Also, the people involved in the war

The book's setting took place in an little american town during vietnam.
The protagonist life is affected by the time area in a bad way because his older cousin that he treats like a brother got drafted and soon after died, the same for his younger brother, soon after that he joined the army. Sadly he lived threw a lot of sequences of unfortunate events but he showed some of his new soldier friends a war game he used to play with his brother and cousin.
The author probably choose this event and time period to make it seem more and more like the actually vietnam war.
Their war such games that the military played in their free time for example one of those games where were you threw rocks at birds and whoever got the highest body count won.

1.”The boy in the striped pajamas” by John Boyne is about the soldiers discriminating them and making them move and work because of their religion. This book is historical fiction because this is based on true part of history. But the part that is fiction is what Bruno sees and hears. Bruno is a little boy at the time and he shares his feelings about everything that is going on. Most children would probably have the same feelings as Bruno. Being confused on why the children are there and things like that.
2.This effect Bruno’s life because he is growing up and seeing the unfairness of what people are treating them like. He is going to grow up and hate their religion because they treated him like this. Bruno would also do the because they don't show him that this is wrong because he is just a child. Also, they are very rude to him, and maybe he will grow up feeling bad about himself because they made him feel that way while he was growing up.
3.I think that the author choose this time period because it is very important part in history. This is a time period that people learn from. It is an example of what not do to. Also, to bring awareness that people shouldn't feel bad about their religion. One of the authors big thing to focus on in this book was explaining little details that not many authors focus on. But that is very important when talking about a subject of history so important.
4. Something I learned, was probably more about the feelings of the children. Before reading this book I never thought about the children and how they felt seeing these things happen. They were so confused and no one wanted to talk to them or teach them about it because it made them sad that this is what their life had came too. I also learned more about what these people did when they got taken away. They felt depressed and ashamed because of their religion and they shouldn't be.

1.This happened in 1997 when three guys were meeting every week thinking on how they were going to take Abraham lincoln's tomb and sell it for money. But on the other hand there were three detectives and police man ready for them to strike but the four men didn't know that. So the police plans were when the bad guys come that they would be arrested.
2. In 1997 that was a good year for the writer because he felt like that was a good year because he felt like that year they did not have as much technology so it would be a good year.
3. Why he felt like it was a good time and setting is because it wouldn't feel that suspicious back then like it is now also because he felt like it would have more action then it would be now why the writer thinks that is because it would take longer to chase them they had no tasers plus they had no cameras like they do now. Also the suspense of the book where the guys try to take the tomb but in all books like this the police caught them loading it in the van and the all went to jail for life and the cops that stopped the got a big promotion.
4.what I learned about the time of 1997 is that even though it was not that good in technology that the cops can still catch you no matter what.

The historical event that made this book historical fiction is that German refugees are fleeing on a boat bound for cuba because they are trying to escape the nazis. The refugees are trying to escape the nazis because the nazis are trying to kill them because they are jewish.
2. This historical event affects the main character’s life because the main character is one of the German refugees fleeing from the nazis. The main character is fleeing from the nazis because he does not want to get killed, prosecuted or hurt by the nazis because he is jewish.
3. I think the author chose the 1940’s as a setting to make the tone of the book more suspenceful and interesting.

Solena,C. Class:C The remarkable life and times of Eliza Rose By Marry Hooper
The historical events in this book make it a historical fiction is how it takes place in 1655 and Eliza Rose is a girl sold into slavery for being kicked out of her own home and is so hungry that she steals a loaf of bread for herself but she gets caught by this police and is taken into the slave house. What also makes it historical is how she has a way of saying words and sentences. Well as I said she was sold into slavery after her step-mom kicks her out of her own house and gets kidnaped by the man who sells people. So she wakes up with no idea where she is and she freaks out and tried to get away but then she is told that her father and mother are dead. But it turns out that the guy who claimed to be her father wasn't her father at all. (I know Plot Twist) But on her journey to find her real father she meets this Doctor who is told to be a physicist and she goes to talk to him and she tries to go find her father from the Doctor who claimed that she should go on her journey and find out for herself. Tha she meets this girl who changes her life for better than worse. The girl Is crazy may I add she has a different way of looking at things, So She takes liking in the girl because she thinks that she can help her. So she takes her into her own home and Eliza works there. So I say that the kidnapping is what really changed her life a lot. I think that the author put this time period in the book to show that this stuff happens and just to show how it does and how to make friends. I learned that we should try to make friends with people who we don't know even if we don't want to.

This book was made in the past because it talks about how the world war 2 happened and how life was where he lived when it happened. It told about all the things that made him feel better since he was against war and his brother went to war. It said how that a army helmet helped the boy because his brother was at war and he was worried about him. He told about why that was special to the boy and how it kept getting lost and how he felt even more worried because the helmet was gone and it was really special to him and gave him good luck.
This affect the boy because if the war wasn’t going on he wouldn’t have his helmet and his brother going to war. If they didn’t have wars then he wouldn’t have been against it and his whole life would change. The boy would be able to see his brother more and do the stuff they did before the brother went to war.
I think he chose this time period because he wanted to this to be about the war. Without the war and the time period the whole main idea would change.
The things i learned from this is how scared people were when the world war was happening. I learned that many people were feared and people didn't want to leave their houses or their family's. people were worried for the people in the war since this war is really dangerous and there is a chance of them dying.
1. My book took place during the 1820's and 1860's during this time there was a lot of black market deals happening and a lot of shady thing happening on the streets of Edinburgh. It was a town crawly with people running the black market and when police or people started getting very suspicious of what is happening they were killed.
2. This event and this time period made a living for my character he is a detective and when someone goes missing or is killed he is there to figure out who committed the murder. It made a career for him in this small town where there were a lot of murders being committed cause if there is a lot of murders and the more cases he investigates the more money he will get paid.
3. I think the author chose this for a setting because it is a easy setting to start off this characters life and make it more interesting cause of all the stuff going on during this time with all the murders. The setting of the book builds suspense cause of the way that it is set up and you will never know who he will run into next or what trouble he will run into next.
4. Something I learned from this time was that they don't have the things that we have now and it was a lot easier of doing a crime and then to get away with it and have no problems.

Swan Town- Michael J. Ortiz
Question 1- A historical time period in the book Swan Town is London July 17, 1597. What makes this a historical time period is that in 1597 it was a very long, long time ago, and a lot of history has taken place since 1597 to now. IN 1597 they had used different materials and different things to communicate with each other.
Question 2- This historical time period affected this person's life because Susana ( the girl in the story) and all of her family members back then used different materials that were commonly used way back then, than now. For examples Susana and her family used ink, they had a lot of farms around where they lived, there was puritans, puritans were a group of English protestants in the late 15 , 16, and 17s centuries, this relates to the time period in 1597 because puritans were used in the book.
Question 3- The author chose this time period as the setting because the book was about the “Secret Journal of Susanna Shakespeare” and in order to make it look like it old they had chose the time/ setting in 1597 at her house to make it look like it was actually a journal entry back in time. Basically in this book they had to make it look like it was Susanna's ‘’actual” journal. As in the title “Swan Town” you can tell that this book isn’t actually something that happened in life, but it gives us vivid information about the time periods of shakespeare, and this book also gives us accurate information about some of the history of events that occured.
Question 4- What I learned about this time period is that they discovered a lot of common stuff now used today back in the late 1500s, for example the microscope, a gun , etc. Another thing I learned is that now that I had realized the 1500s was way different than the time period we live in now. There were a lot of different useful items found/discovered in the 1500s that are more commonly used now.

The historical event about this book is about a eighteen-year-old Alexandrina Victoria that turned into the queen of England because her Uncle William IV had died. This book was a historical fiction because the time period was September 1835. This time period affected the character’s life because her uncle that was the king died and then Victoria was queen of England. She had a responsibility to be queen. She had to attend everything to look like a queen. I think the author chose this time period as the setting because September 1835 was the day she became queen. I learned that she was eighteen years old when she became queen. She wanted people to call her Victoria and not Alexandrina. Everyone said that she was destined to marry her cousin Prince Albert. She had to learn on how to be a queen.

1. The historical event of this story is about Malcolm Little and his life when he moved from the rest of his family in Lansing Michigan in to Boston in 1940.
2.This historical event affected Malcolm Little's life because when he moved to Boston his life changed because before his Dad died and before his mom was taken to a mental hospital even though there was nothing wrong with her Malcolm was raised in a good way. He was raised to stay out of trouble don't do drugs and stay away from breaking the law. When Malcolm moved to Boston everything changed Malcolm became a whole different person he would never stop drinking and would never stop smoking Marijuana and got in to crime like selling Marijuana and stealing from houses. Stealing from houses got him in jail.
3. The author used this time period because from the time he left Lansing Michigan in 1940 he changed from because a good person to doing very bad things. This was a good time period to chose because this was the time his life changed.
4. I learned that in the time period the book was being told that when he was living in Michigan blacks were treated poorly and couldn't get jobs. But when he moved to Boston blacks were not treated like whites but as soon as he got there he got a job. Living in boston if you were a black was better than living in Michigan in that time period.

1) The time Period that took place during my book was, The attack of pearl harbor in Japan only a while later in 1943 they still lived in terror of another attack because things were rocky in the country.
2) This time period affected the life of Tomi and his friends and family because his grandfather and father were taken by the soldiers, after the attack. Him and his mom, and grandmother were left stranded wondering if they were still alive. They owned a boat and the soldiers suck it because it was a Jap boat. Tomi was determined to unsink the boat but it seemed impossible, for a little kid who can't tell anyone about his sneeky plan. Although there was a few pontoons’ around from friends whose parents used to be in the military. A Pontoon is a ruberish device that unsinks ships. At the end if the book he does unsink the boat but many were watching this and one of them, could have been a U.S army member that will stop him, but it doesn't say. At night they have to sleep with no lights on and everything boarded up so nobody flying above can see light they make it looked abandoned in the hopes they wouldn't drop the bomb on them. They also, have to hide any decorations that are related to the Jap life in case someone breaks into there house.
3)I think the author choose this time period because it relates to everything in the story. When he had to hid his family swords and crest because if a soldier broke into his house they would be arrested because they can see that they are Japs or when they wanted to unsink the father's Jap ship to show him that they loved him and wanted him back Tomi was determined to do this or more so, when american boy, broke his red fish flags( Family Symbol) All the main events and small all lead back to the bombing event that took place in there small town.
4) I wasn't to clear on the subject at all, so i learned how it affected all the people that lived during this time period and everything that was happening in the world around it, also, aloth some of the coutions the japs had to take. It was hard for them to live, and how they were able to handle it.

Q2 He wasn't home with his family, and he had to turn his back away from his number one priority baseball. Also in a complete different setting and he had to work from the ground up and learn. Also he didn't know anyone.
Q3 Because he was able to make a lot of suspense. A good baseball player turned his back on a sport he loved to protect his country. Its was like he forgot everything he knew about baseball and had to learn it again. If it was just about a kid playing baseball in the 1940 how good of a book is that.
Q4 One super interesting thing i learned that if a family has a blue star on their door or window it means they have a family member in war. Also i never new how violent this war was i didn't realize that they used takes and technology like that either.

The historical event that happened in the book was the Boston Massacre that took place in the 1770’s. The Boston Massacre was a big uproar. The British tried to to get the Boston residence to get angry. Also Rachel the main character was very nervous and scared about this historical event.
Rachel Marsh was affected by the Boston Massacre. She had to search for a place to stay safe and away from the uproar. She was a young lawyer for the Adams.
I think the author chose this time period as the setting to make the story more interesting. Also to allow there to multiple point of view of the time period. This is because in social studies, you learn about how the British felt as if they want Boston to be angry and how Boston felt that it was unnecessary for the British but you don’t hear about how residence felt and a child / teen felt. With this book you know that Rachel was scared and worried. And you also know how the lawyer of the guy that yelled the British were coming felt. Without this book you know only about the soldiers.

This historical event affected the main character life is his friend really wants Zachary so they go, nothing really happened there but when the main character and his friend were riding their bikes and stopped to see their friends, one of them try to though a rock and hit him but he moved and it hit the window and broke it. It wasn’t any ordinary window but it was Zach window. Latter on they go to find out that zach knew it happened and a cop brought them because the cop thought zach was around their age so he wouldn't be frightened. They three were all talking the main character, his friend, and Zachary and they learned about Zachs life and noticed what they had wasn't as bad as others.
3. I think he may have chose the time period to show that back then wasn't as bad as we think. And so we dont get the feel of today and give tho old style feel to it there was no t.v’s cell phones and video games. And show what they did for fun.
4. What i learned back then is you had a lot more freedom to be out and with your friend. And back then when there was an event many people would go to it for entertainment.
Dayton V “The Smell Of Other People's Houses
By Bonnie-Sue Hitchcock
The time period of my book was 1970 in Alaska the two main places in Alaska the book is told from is Fairbanks,Alaska and Southeast Alaska and Canada. In my book there wasn't just one big event my book is about what seasons are like in Alaska and what people do in Alaska each season. This book is historical fiction because it states real places in the world and what people do in Alaska. There are many different events in the book because it's told by four main characters.
The main character Ruth her family is poor and sell fish to make money. But she is dating a kid who has a rich family and this affects the time period and story to show what it was like being poor in Alaska in the 70s and what it was like to be rich. Like I said there is not big events in the story just smaller ones that affect the time period.
I think the author choose this time period and location to show us that we should be more grateful for how we live and where we live because it's a lot harsher in other parts of the world. I also think he choose this time period to show how people life were a lot different back then and in Alaska and how middle class there was a low class here.
I learned that people have a similar lifestyle throughout the year in Alaska because the weather doesn't change much also how its alot harder to get good like go to the grocery store because Alaska is such an isolated area. I also learned that in Alaska there is a lot more fishing because it is hard to grow crops in a place where is pretty much winter all year. The final thing I learned is that there is lots of different types of people and that is what the whole book is about “The Smell Of Other People’s Houses,” how there was many different perspectives of life and lots of different life styles in 1970s Alaska.

Something that made this book Historical Fiction , is each student and character in the book is religious , Jewish, and catholic. Except for one student who is neither. The teachers called him Holling. The time period wasn't that old but , what the story was mostly about made it historical fiction.
This event affects the character Hollings life because when everyone is in class learning about their religion, Holling is left in class with worst enemy. Mrs Baker, his teacher. Holling and Mrs Baker do not get along...at all. She is the only one who has time to look after him while everyone else is in class. Throughout the whole school year, Mrs Baker made Hollings life very hard. If Holling went to a religion class, he probably wouldn't have had to go and spend his time with Mrs Baker. Therefore, this is how the historical event changed Hollings life.
I think the author chose this event for this book because not a lot of schools that aren't for mainly that religion, have students that go there. The author probably wanted to change things up a little bit , and make the audience believe that it's real without it being non - fiction. He made up his own type of school that has classes that are most religions but you don't even need to be catholic or jewish to attend the school. You can go either way.
Something I learned about this time period and this event of this book is that to be apart of something you don't have to do what everyone else does. This goes along with Holling going to a school he wanted and not even doing things that the other students do. He figured out a way to stay but not attend the religious classes. Even though he had to stay with his favorite teacher... I Learned that you can do things different then what other people do throughout your life.

Book: Woods Runner - Gary Paulsen
1. This book takes place during a war, WWII to be exact. This makes my book historical fiction, because it happened in the past, during war. The main character, Samuel lived with his parents. They had owned a house in the woods, that his dad had made. They went hunting. In the very first chapter, it stated that “It felt like yesterday when Samuel was just playing in the dirt, and doing house chores, and the next day he was 13 holding a .33 rifle. Samuel loved to hunt. This also makes it historical fiction, because now, these days no one really hunts for food to survive anymore. Only a tiny percent of our population does that, from what I know.
2. The time period affects the main character because Samuel’s parents are taken by British soldiers, and he has to find them, to recapture his parents. If this story took place in a different time period, this would never happen. This affects the character, and the story. It also affected how he lived. Some days, he would go without food, because of the lack of deer, and other animals he would kill. If it took place in a better time, he would have plenty, and wouldn’t struggle to find food.
3. I think that the author chose this time period, because it makes sense for the traits of the characters, and where they are living, and how they are living. What I mean by this is Samuel lives with his parents in the woods, with many guns, and they have to hunt. A war setting would make sense. If they were not in war, and it was just a normal everyday day in the past, it would make for a boring story. The entire story would not make any sense, since this book is based on war
4. I learned that WWII was a hard time for many; living wasn’t easy. WWII caused many problems, like death and injuries. I also learned that most people would have to hunt for food, guns were a necessity, and you would have to be constantly looking for people that may hunt you down and harm you. It was a rough time, and I would not want to live there. I also learned about many types of guns that were used in WWII. Mostly every chapter, there would be an information page, describing the setting in which the characters were currently in.

This book takes place in India, 1918 six months after World War 1. This book is historical fiction it takes place in World War 1 and because the author talks about how it was in 1918 and how difficult and challenging it was to live in that time period.
This book affected the character's life because her dad went into the war a month before the war happened and never came home. Also her mom is very sick and her neighbor doesn't really like her because she spends too much time in the sun and not enough time doing school work. Also during the time of the war her and her mother had to move from the U.S to India.
The author chose this time period because this time period is a very interesting time period to talk about. So many families had to move out of there homes and move somewhere save. Also there was a lot of action during World War 1, a lot of people lost their lives and many were wounded. Some people never returned home to their beloved ones.
From this time period I learned that many people were drafted into the war, meaning they didn't want to go into war, so the government made people go into the war. Also that many families had to move because where they lived it wasn’t safe.

This month i read a book called “stowaway”. most of the book takes place on the ship h.m.s. Endeavour a small exploratory vessel that sailed around the world between the years 1768 and 1771. The main character's name is nicholas young who apparently did exist along with the ship, but not much is known about him except for that he was on the ship thought it's entire voyage [ during the last leg of the voyage a deadly sickness that comes from batavia kills most of the people on board] the book is fictional because they made up and filled out some unknown details such as how nicholas got on the ship, and his backstory with the butcher and his family. The time period is important primarily with the fact that some of the world was uncharted, i mean their missions are to see if new guinea and new holland [australia] are connected, mapping out new holland, new zealand, and new guinea, finding new species of plants and animals, and sailing around the world to foreign lands to map out and make treaties with. That is a lot of stuff. And for stuff i learned, i learned that australia was called new holland, kids were on ships at really young ages, maps weren’t the most accurate back then, they didn’t know antarctica was a continent, and sailors weren’t taught to swim.

Dear America, Seeds of Hope, The Gold Rush Diary of Susanna Fairchild
By: Kristiana Gregory
1. The time period was 1849 and it was the time of the Gold Rush Susanna and her father traveled from New York to Oregon searching for gold!
2. Susanna and her father did not have a car in the 1800’s, so they had to travel by wagon. That affected them because it would have been a much quicker ride to get to their new destination, Oregon if they had a car.
3. The author choose the setting of the Gold Rush to explain how life was like back then and also to help readers understand that there are a lot of different ways of living back in those times, ex. if you wanted to be rich you would go digging for gold. Now, you need to work hard to get paid and save your money to be rich or inherit money or win the lottery.
4. One thing I learned from this book is that life was a lot harder in the 1800’s than today. A second thing I learned was, to be honest I thought the Gold Rush was waterfalls made of gold and instead of gushing gallons and gallons of water it would gush rocks of gold. (I am dead serious that is what I thought the gold rush was.) But, then I read this book and realized I was very wrong. That is a few things I learned in my november book.

1.It made it historical fiction because it had like some fake thinking in there but at the same time it had talked about world war two, one of the fictional things were that the things had came from the author imagination and the town they lived in was called Red Cedar.
2.It affects the characters life because his life was like all about war and being bomb and him watching others fight for there country. So i would think that he would be afraid to walk outside cause there might be a slim chance of him being shot by someone cause the others might have mistaken him at a intruder. Also his dad was party of the military at that time so he might be scared that he might got shot.
3.I think the author chose this time period because he might have been apart of the military or like a family friend that was in it so he might have wanted to write a book about the adventures and challenges that his or her family member had to face. Also she might have studied about world war two or heard alot about it so she liked talking and writing about the topic.
4.I learned that there were many people that had risked the lives for other and had tried to win the war so they could go back to see their family. And that without a military or a army our world would come to an end.

Jessie B la C Johnny Tremain by Esther Forbes
This book is about the Boston revolt this time period took place the summer of 1773 and ended the april of 1775 . Johnny is a 14 year old orphan boy silversmith in the town of Boston Mass until he casts some silver on is hand causing him to pass out when he recovers Johnny disformes his hand and cant follow through with his job of being a silversmith. He participates in the boston tea party act because of the taxation without representation and battle of lexington and also the american revolution.
This historical event affects Johnny's life because he is a gifted silversmith that was given more responsibility than the others that work for Mr. lapham in the book johnny overcomes many struggles
Based on the book the author chose that time period because he can not follow through of being a silversmith anymore so therefor he needed another path and he believed he was related to the rich Mr.light who was very well know johnny showed him a silver cup that ran in the family but Mr.light did not believe him so johnny was thrown in jail
I learned that many people participated in the boston tea act not just the colonists that believed the taxing was unfair.
The event that made this book historical fiction would be that this girl Maria went to her house she was thinking about her when she was older and how she became the first women as a nurse in the 1789.
This historical event is when Maria was thinking was i am only getting 200,000,000 everyday like i don’t understand i help all this people and i only get a little bit of money. When Maria was done with her hours she went back home to make herself some dinner and something to drink.
THEN THE PHONE RANG!!!!! IT WAS HER BOSS! She was thinking to herself why is he calling me did i do something wrong.
“Hello.”
“Is this Maria.”
“Yes.”
“You have a patience that needs surgery right away and i need your help but there was no surgery done i'm confused like what?........”
I Think that this author chose this time period because the 1789 was a very difficult time for some people and they need to let people know how it was so they made this setting very dark and very depression at the end of the book.
Well i didn’t know that you could go to the parks at midnight and you always had to be in your house by midnight or you would be a arrested. Some people who was depressed they stayed in their houses 24/7 and not come out and i thought that some would be died like woah.

This time in the book was when segregation was legal before Martin Luther King had his fight for segregation to be illegal and they we disrespected very badly and pushed around and never got good jobs or got good income to actually feed their own families
In this story Amari is a average teenage girl going through high school, And making the most of it the segregation didn’t really offend her that much but she was the most advanced In every class and always got the end of the year awards. But she was sad at the upcoming times kids were wiped and spanked. And she was sick that they never had good supplies they always had hand me downs that were used for years till there garbage and then they got them with is completely unfair on my part. But the one thing that mostly was bad that she was despised by everyone in the school except for her friend Jackie
I believe the author chose this time period because it wasn’t that long ago and it's telling people what someone else's take on the subject matter and how someone else could be the smartest no matter the color you are you can achieve anything you can put you mind to
I didn’t know that the kids knew about Rosa Parks. Also was still in segregation my reasoning it because that I had inferred the it had happened during the time martin Luther King was here. She had done that on the bus. But apparently it wasn’t even close to that but what i don't get is that colored people were still giving their seats to white folks like what?
Trinity A. , Block-D,Miss. Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children (november blog)
(question 1)The event in this incredible book called,”Miss. Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children,” that made this book Historical fiction is World War ii.
(question 2)When jumping into the book the setting takes off in 2010 (my assumption) where Jake the main character of this book is a young child listening to his grandpa’s story about being a young kid in world war ii. Since he is a more urban/more recent kid, this affect of him being in World War ii affected him in a mediocre way meaning neither good or bad so… okay.
(question 3)I feel like the author chose, World War ii as the setting because it’s not very expected for a 16 year old boy to have to face these challenges of an ongoing war.
(question 4)I learned that, many schools and buildings got destroyed by bombs and soldiers and that many young and old people lost their homes. Also that a lot of people tried their best to stay safe and live a good life without being affected. Like Jakes grandfather's old school did. Which made Jake go visit the destroyed building to see his grandfather's, “ Stories,” weren't exactly stories which made him go thru a loop back to WWii but i'm not going to summarize or spoil the book for you. You should go read the book for yourself.

The historical event in this book it focuses on first person of a kid named Chance taylor and issues of terrorism and patriotism , and lives of poverty. This is historical because it talks about what he had to go through and why it's similiar to what i just named.
People in the world chance says in the story hate their parents for having issues like alcoholics or simple stuff that CAN be dealt with he never understood any of that. Because with event (s) he had to overcome with his mom passing away in the sixth grade his dad getting kicked out of the army and not to mention being a hard alcoholic these were things he never told his dad he hated him EVER.
I believe that the author choose this this time period in which terrorism was big. To send a strong message to kids that take things for granted it is wrong to say the stuff they say to parents and loved ones in their arms because chance has close to nothing to hold on to.
I learned to always stay humble of what i have in life because tomorrow is not guaranteed and i think the author did a great job getting the point across early and later in the book.

Book: Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson
1.The time period this book was based on was 1700’s. It talks about places in Southwestern England like Bristol and other places.
2. This time period Affected Jim Hawkins his father was really sick and there was nothing the Doctor could do to cure him. The doctor, Dr.Livesey would come visit him each day to see how he was doing. Then one day he died and Jim and his mother had to take care of the Admiral Benbow, (a place for people to stay).
3.I think Robert Louis Stevenson chose this time period because there was no medicine to cure people or no tests to prove if someone had a condition and one main part of this story is the ‘Black Dot’. The black dot is this piece of paper with a black dot on it that this blind sailor gave one of the people staying at Admiral Benbow. Once the blind sailor left, the guy who was with Jim collapsed on the floor and died of a heart attack. There was nothing to let the Dr know that someone had a heart issue, so I think Robert Louis Stevenson used this time period as a major part of the story.
4.I learned that in this time period there was a lot of sailors. Some of the sailors would have cutlasses which is like a sword. Also say someone took something, then somehow all the sailors would know and target that guy. They also liked rum and had a lot of rum for when they sailed overseas

Bullyville by Francine Prose
The historical event was about September 11, 2001 and it made this book historical fiction because it is a tragedy that happened in the United States. It took over thousands of people's lives. Many people left in the morning to go to work and never came back home.
This historical event affected Bart, the characters life because his dad died in the twin towers on September 11, 2001. And if it wasn't for Bart his mother would be dead to. This is because on the first day of his new school he was sick and his mother wouldn't trust him home alone so she stayed home with him. His mother's job was working in the twin towers. So that day the twin towers burned down his dad died but his mother was at home watching him. Bad enough his dad is dead but now he gets bullied in his new school. It made Bart's life a lot worse when he went to Baileywell.
I think this author chose this time period because it was when the United States was in a bad time losing their loved ones. For instance, Bart loses his father in the twin towers and it causes sadness in the family.
I learned that in this time period thousands of people died and made families fall apart due to the tragedy. Another thing i learned is the fear people had loosing their family member/ loved ones.
Aly D. The sea wolf by Jack London LA D
The sea wolf is a psychological adventure novelist Jack London about a literary critic and other survivors of an ocean collision who come under the dominance of Wolf Larsen, The powerful and amoral sea captain who rescues them. The historical event was that there was a big boat collision while seal hunting and somehow survived. The historical time could’ve affected that person’s life, because they thought they wouldn’t survive but they did, and now they can look back at that time and think that they lived a lucky life. I think the author chose this time period as the setting because there was something to write about and it was an interesting part of history. One thing I learned was that a big boat collision happened that I didn’t know about.

Go Ask Alice By Anonymous
1./4. (Mr. Swist told me to do a summary) This book took place in the late 1960’s to early 1970’s. It was a journal entry of a young 15 year old teenage girl over the course of a little bit over 2 years. She was a normal teenager but never really seemed to fit in at school but had some good friends. She was at a party, playing what seemed to be an innocent party game when things went downhill. Someone put LSD in her drink and over time she got addicted. Her life that once seemed so perfect went opposite in no time. She found herself on streets of an unknown city with questionable people. She managed to get her life somewhat back together and went back to her home. Three weeks after she stopped keeping a diary, she was found dead of drug overdose. Accidental or premeditated, no one knows.
2. This majorly affected the characters life. She was such a happy teen but one taste of drugs can mess someone up all together. When someone put LSD in her drink, her life wouldn’t be the same after that. She was forced by peer pressure to start taking drugs and ultimately, it was her decision to keep going.
People would ask where to get drugs and other would say, “Go ask Alice,” because they knew she always had them.

Fallen Angels
Walter dean myers
1. Fallen Angels by walter dean myers is set in vietnam on may 7th 1968. This book is followed by a 17 year old teenager named richie perry. This book is historical fiction because it was about the vietnam war, which is a big part of our history. Also it's fiction because the person in this story's name was richie perry and the real person that was remembered was thomas wayne myers.
2.this time period affected this person's life because the vietnam war about to start/happen and he was 17 which was old enough to be in it and he was forced to fight for his life and country at only 17. Since he was only 17 he had no clue what to do or how to take someone's life in war he had no training and was very weak and scrawny. He was not war material. He was scared because he had to leave his family to go fight in a huge war that he was not ready for.
3. I think the author chose this time period as the setting because there was a lot of chaos in this time period. A lot of teenagers in young men 17-21 had to leave their families to go fight in a huge war they weren't ready for. Also i think the author chose this setting because his brother died in the vietnam war. Also every problem the character had created suspense because you didn’t know what was going to happen whether he was going to die or stay alive.
4. I learned that the time period of the vietnam war was terrible because kids that were 17 had to fight for their country and life with no say in what they do. Also most of those kids died because they had no clue what they were doing including the main character.
Miles S LA D League of American Traitors Author Matthew Landis
The League of American traitors is a book about people who betrayed the U.S. and became one of the most famous traitors in history. Any descendant of one was implied to go to a camp where they can’t be harmed from others that hate the traitor they are related to. Matthew Landis wrote the book in the time period years after Benedict Arnold betrayed America and the Revolutionary War. This makes the book historical fiction because it’s about the descendant of Benedict Arnold, Jasper, and other descendants of traitors. The traitors were all from the Revolutionary War and formed a camp where other descendants from heroes of the Revolutionary War couldn’t hurt or worse kill them. It’s more like a new conflict between the traitors and heroes to see which side is better and who gets the bragging rights of who is and who’s not.
The years after the Revolutionary War affected the main character’s life dramatically because Jasper gets in a conflict between the descendants of the Sons of Liberty and the League of American traitors. Jasper was almost killed before he got to the camp, but after the attempted assault Jasper was quickly rushed to safety and was in the camp of League of American traitors. Jasper didn’t find out he was the descendant of Benedict Arnold until after his dad died protecting Jasper from the conflict between the two sides of descendants. Since this was hidden so well from Jasper, he never knew he was in grave danger ever since he was born. Jasper’s dad was a descendant of Benedict Arnold and knew his son would be killed if anyone knew they were related. Jasper had to learn how to duel with a weapon of any kind, mostly a firearm. Jasper’s life changed from being an average high schooler, to a secret official at the age of seventeen.
I think the author chose the time period because the years after the Revolutionary War would never be forgotten. This was the main reason Jasper was a main target to eliminate in the view of the Sons of Liberty. The author also chose this period of time since it would have a sudden twist of events in Jasper's life revealing his true character as a traitor. Ever since Jasper’s parents died he would deny help and betray anyone who did. He was insecure since his dad left him and his mom. This was even worse for Jasper since he owned everything his parents bought and he wasn’t good at responsibility yet.
I learned that the Revolutionary War was a historical event that can never be forgotten to people who are related to heroes and traitors. I also learned that Benedict Arnold was in the REvolutionary War and the Sons of liberty were not just ordinary human beings. They were heroes of Independence.

It was in 1935 the depression the turtle is telling us what he sees in her point of view and she saw 3 kids and one was spitting things at the truck.
How did this historical event or time period affect the character's life?
It affected the characters life because
I think the author chose this time period because she knew that a lot of people suffered from depression and the places that she wrote them about where from people that she knew of was related to that had a street named after them.
Zoe R. Class D Milkweed-Jerry Spinelli
The book Milkweed is taken place during World War ll (WW2) in Warsaw, Poland. The main character is a Gypsy who was born on the streets with no family and is uneducated and is called many names because he does not know his own and he is called names like, Jew, Gypsy, Stopthief, Runt, Happy, Fast, Filthy son of Abraham, Misha Pilsudski, Poppynoodle, one-eared Jack, Stupid, and Misha Milgrom, and lastly Jack Milgrom. He was only about 8 when a guy named Uri came up to him and took him by his side and took him to a place full of other Jews that were trying to survive and to get away from the jackboots (Nazis). I think that the author chose this setting because it is a great way to tell a story that most people have heard about WW2 and know what it was about and it had a great impact in people's lives and to write about it, well people will understand it more. One of the things that I learned about WW2 is that when the Jackboots were gathering up the jews to go on the trains to the camps they told that they were going to a better place and that was a lie they went there to work until they died. Also another thing that I learned is that all of the people that were jews and not jews had a big protest that there were cans of spray paint that said things like “Jews only” or “non jews only” and it reminded me of the time of segregation where it was blacks only or colored only and whites only and it told me that that was not the only time that something like that has happened.

In the 1600s, Geoffrey, sheriff of Nottingham, showed at the king’s castle wanting help and a crew for going out and looking for rare beast to find, capture, and kill. He needed a crew. What he needed was Robin Hood. Robin Hood was the best hunter in all the kingdom except that he was locked up for being dishonorable so it was up to Geffrey to get him out. Geoffrey was the one that put him in because he was the sheriff.
2. Letting Robin Hood out was a great thing because we’ve already capture 5 unknown creatures and then after a while we started getting all the creatures and there was only one beast left. It was called the bear beast. Robin Hood left me and Geoffrey left him so he went to find the bear beast. He had found the bear beast because he was captured by it and luckily he was able to free a hand and kill the beast and bring his head back to the king and Robin Hood.
3. I think that the author choose this period because it was set in a time period that guns weren’t invented.
4. I learned that robin hood was a great hunter

Run, Boy, Run
The time period of the book is the 1940s while the holocaust was happening, this makes the book a historical fiction because the events to the main character didn’t actually happen to him/his ‘gang’. The event during the time period affected his life because of him being a Jewish boy on the “Polish side” and not having his family with him. He’s decided to stay with a group of boys and travel with them as they stole and protect each other from being caught. The author probably chose the time period because it’s a heavy subject and many holocaust writers only write truth/fact about it while this author made a choice to write fiction to give such a heavy topic light fiction. I learned/processed that the time of the holocaust was a difficult time for all types of people, especially the ones who reigned in that region of the world (Poland, Germany)

The historical event that happened throughout this book was the leading of the Dictator Trujillo in the Dominican Republic and all the fights and wars that happened through the years near 1856. This historical event affected the life of Camila Henriquez because she was a small girl who lived in a town in the Dominican Republic with her aunt, mother and sister whom all experienced the life of second hand battle. The character reflects upon her life when this fighting was happening. Camila’s father had been in the mix of the fighting and she recalls hearing cannons firing in nearby buildings and having to hide out in an underground cellar underneath her small home. I think that the author chose this time period to write about because it was a large time period in D.R. that caused a lot of pain and trauma to the people of D.R. being ruled by a dictator for a long time. The author probably saw a chance to make a very good fictional story with factual dates and events. Something I learned from this time period that I did not know before was that these war-like, series of fights were broken out in the streets of the Dominican Republic. It wasn't fought on battlefields but on the very streets of people's homes and many Dominicans lost their lives and the lives of their loved ones.
Kristiana C. LA-A The Fortune of War by Patrick O’Brian
My story, “The Fortune of War” by Patrick O’Brian is about the war of 1812 which was between England and America. The main character in the book, Captain Jack Aubrey, is a part of the royal navy. He is sailing while the war breaks out which makes encounters with American vessels such as the USS Constitution a less than ideal situation. Since they left port before the war broke out, they were not ready for fighting and the Americans are ready to defeat them. This makes an already hard trip even harder and more dangerous for Aubrey. I think the author chose this time period to give the characters a challenge. There still would have been a fire onboard the ship if there was no war, but there would have been no run in with the Constitution and Jack would not have been shot in the arm and seriously injured. The war gave the characters an extra challenge. I learned that the war of 1812 was between England and America and Canada greatly helped England because it was so close to America. I did not know many things about the war of 1812 before reading this book and will definitely want to learn more.

Paper Trail, Barbara Snow Gilbert
Jessie Barrett Tital Johnny tremain by Esther

Question One, Historical fiction is Why i think my book is historical fiction because it's something back then that happened and it something that is fiction and that means it not real it face so my store is about pirates but some stuff is not so real about it.
Question Two , Well it is talking about him and his kid and his art how important it is to him and his son he was talking to the person who bought it and he had a son with him and I think it mate of hurt him a little because he seen a little boy looking at his art just like his son does it makes him happy . When he gave the panting he keep wishing luck and saying to stay behind the door and not move.
Question Three, The place it got taken was back then so there is so many things different then and now “Father appeared called roughly for a glass of Rum,” That is what i found and why because back then they sold Rum and know they do not and then they did different things like how they sold things and how.

The historical event/ time was 1943 when the jews of Denmark were being relocated. This historical event affected the characters life because her best friend Ellen is jewish and so she is on a mission to save her best friend so she doesn’t have to leave her. I think the author chose this period in time so that the people reading could have more insight to the time. I learned that they really had no mercy for anyone they were ruthless and they wanted to make every jewish person in that one town leave. I also learned that people would have done anything to help their friends and family stay with them.
Early Sunday Morning : The Pearl Harbor Diary of Amber Billows

LA class B
The Historical event this book was set in was the bombing of Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, 1941. It is the diary of a 12 year old girl who moved to Hawaii shortly before the event with her pregnant mother, her father, and her older brother. On December 7th, 1941, Pearl Harbor was bombed by Japanese planes. In the book, Amber is woken up by her mother and is told to wake up her brother. They all go into the backyard to watch planes explode after being shot, and to watch the chaos of what had happened unfold. Amber’s mother is a nurse, so she is called to the hospital to come in and Amber and her brother, Andy, are left alone in their house until their father comes home from work.
I think the author chose this time period as the setting because there were so many views from different people at that time. People were scared, nervous, and some people were probably glad that the event happened. The story includes the fact that Amber’s friend, a japanese girl, watched as her father was taken away in handcuffs to be questioned just because he was japanese. There were so many different views on the event that it would have been a possibility to write from the perspective of a nervous young girl, and so that’s what the author did.
Something i learned about this time period that i didn’t know before was that there are still a few things that haven’t changed since 1941. There are still people afraid of others who are judged based upon what other people of their race have done. People are still scared of terrorists attacks from other countries. People are still racially profiled often, less than 1941, but its still common to be looked down upon because of your race.

1.The setting that made this book historical fiction is it was during the time of World war II in the 1940’s in the United States. The world war II was a war fought between pretty much every nation in the world at the time was in it one way or another but the four main were the Unitied States, Geremany, Japense, and Russians
2.The book being in world war II affected Elizabeth because her brother was a soldier for the U.S army who was away from home because of the war which also leads to him getting killed in the war.
3.I believe the author choose this time period because it plays a pretty decent part in the way the story starts to wrap up. What i mean by that is her brother was killed in the war which cause elizabeth’s parents to be more sad, upset, and they started to pay less attention to elizabeth because of what happened which allows the story to come face to face with the problem.
4.I learned that in World War II the main reason the U.S was part of it was because they we’re enemies with the Japanese who dropped bombs on one of our army ships in Pearl Harbor which is what we call this tragic day because of it. I also learned that the Nazi’s invaded Poland and were succ

Girl code
The historical event of the book was that these two girls were doing code and they were friends and in school people would ask them what code was and they thought it was funny also another part that was a historical event was that these girls were always telling people what they were doing and telling them their business so other people laughed.
The historical event affected their life because when they told people about there coding and told them about their personal life the people they told were laughing and the people they told started telling other people and those other people told people and now the whole school knows about it.
I think the author chose this time period because the girls decided to tell all these people about her life and then had so many other people tell other people so now the whole school knows so the author decided to use this time period so it would look more interesting.
I didn't know that when these girls told the people they trusted about their life they didn't think they would go around and telling people also i learned that if someone ever comes to me and tells me there personal information that i would keep it to myself and not tell anyone because i'm not like that but if that person wants me to tell someone because they're upset of afraid then i will because i have their permission.

Title The day the president was shot
Author Bill O’Reily
A historical event in the book that made the book non-fiction was whey John Hinckley shot president Ronald Reagan to impress a movie star.
This historical event affected President Reagan's life because when he was shot his life changed because as it said in the book if the bullet entered his body a little to his life it would be his heart and this shows that he was a inch away from death. Also two people also got shot a died
The author used this time period in his book because it was the most important event in his life he was leaving a hotel and in the front of him were two police officers and they were not looking in front of him they were looking at him making it a great time for John Hinckley to shoot him.
I learned that the secret service wasn't as important as it today in the book it said this event was a reason that they tightened security at the white house a around the president.
